When someone you love and care about has some good news or achieves something great, you will want to do a little more than just saying congrats to them. However, many people seem to have the misconception that a congratulations gift is not worth much if it’s…well not worth much. They buy too easily into the concept that the best gifts are the more expensive ones. While we are not about to say that most people don’t like being spoiled, because that simply is not true. We all love being spoiled from time to time.
What we are trying to say is that it’s more than anything the thought behind the gift that means the most. In fact, it’s often the case that if people know you have a tight budget and you still buy them a gift, they are even more touched by it.
So, don’t worry about what you can’t afford, see it as a challenge to still get a great gift within your humbler budget. It’s possible and we have some suggestions to prove it.
Capture the Big Day
If you are or were there on the day they won a prize or reached a goal they’d been working hard to, you could capture the moment for them with a picture frame. Take the best photograph you have, or find someone who has a photograph of them, say at an award ceremony or crossing the finish line of a race and place it into a nice frame. Picture frames, even some very classy and sophisticated designs, do not actually cost too much and most printing services these days, even for reasonable quality photo prints are not too expensive either. That way they get a keepsake to capture the big day and all the memories that go with it.
Homemade Cake
There is no more succinct way to say congratulations than with a cake that has the words congratulations ice on it. If you’re a dab hand in the kitchen, why not put your baking skills to good use and whip up an extra special cake in celebration of their achievement. You could make it even more memorable by choosing their favorite kind of cake and getting creative with sugar craft and icing to recreate their achievement or something that represents why you are congratulating them.
The time, effort, skill and love that you put into the cake are worth far more than buying an expensive watch or something similar. To many people anyway.
Congratulations Gift Basket
Sticking with the edible theme, another inexpensive way to say congrats to someone special in your life is by sending them a gift basket full of tasty treats. You have lots of options. There are gift baskets available for people who like a bit of everything sweet related, the ones that prefer to stick to the cookies and the people who are gourmet enthusiasts and enjoy savories and fine cheese.
Don’t Forget a Card
No matter what you get, always remember to package it with a greetings card. Cards are often undervalued, but they are the best way to express your feelings towards someone without actually saying them. So, if you want to congratulate someone, make sure you do it in card form. They also provide the recipient with a keepsake/memento of the occasion.
